Title: Some applications of Number Theory to Information Theory Speaker: Gicomo Micheli Time: 5:00pm–6:15pm Place: DAV 265
In the first part of the talk, we will see how to capture information of polynomial maps over finite fields using group theory. With the developed framework, we will describe how to construct various interesting combinatorial structures, such as complete \(m\)-arcs and codes for distributed storage systems. In the second part of the talk we will use the theory of multiplicative character sums to construct binary linear codes with relative distance ? that have exponential size compared with all previous constructions with the same asymptotic relative distance.
